Design Technology

Key Stage 2

We hold numerous primary events so Year 5 and 6 pupils can experience D&T using specialist equipment and subject teachers.  Events include:  Sinking of the Titanic, The Midas Touch and preparing and cooking food for lunch.

Key Stage 3

Our students experience and enjoy the full range of Design Technology subjects, taught by enthusiastic specialists, namely Food and Nutrition, Textiles, Resistant Materials, Engineering and our new development STEAM.

STEAM has evolved from the STEM subjects, Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Art plays an integral, complementary role, thus creating STEAM.  Learning integrates with other curriculum areas and students apply their knowledge to real life situations.

Key Stage 4

All aspects of the KS3 curriculum can be taken at GCSE – AQA Food Technology, AQA Resistant Materials, OCR Textiles Technology and B-Tec Engineering.  This promotes problem solving skills, independent learning and builds on KS3 experiences.  Learners experience amazing opportunities leading to potential careers.

Key Stage 5

We now offer Level 3 BTec Engineering to 6th form students and this has had a significant impact on KS5 numbers. We are developing more opportunities for students to continue their education in Design Technology.
