This year, despite the challenges caused by the pandemic, students have excelled, and the academy is celebrating a year of strong results for students. Many students are now preparing to head on to the university, apprenticeship or job of their choice.
The Academy saw particular success in a number of subjects notably in Applied Science, Business and Public Services where over 80% of students achieved Distinction or better.
While all students have done well, there are some standout individual achievements. These include:
Due to the pandemic, the Government made the decision that this year, young people’s grades would be determined by teachers, based on work they had produced throughout their courses. These grades were then moderated and assessed by external exam boards who awarded the final grades.
Collecting her A Level results today, Emily Vallance, said:
‘ I can’t believe it, after such a turbulent year these results are better than I could have expected. I worked so hard and knowing that it has paid off I am really excited about my future.’
Simon Smith, Principal at Goodwin Academy, said:
“I am incredibly proud of our students as they receive their grades today. They have worked so hard over the last two years and taken all the challenges of the pandemic in their stride. To see them receive the grades they deserve and be able to progress onto their next steps is fantastic.
“We are excited to see what the future holds for them and would like to say a huge thank you to all our students, parents, carers, staff and local community for your support and encouragement.”
Stuart Gardner, CEO of Thinking Schools Academy Trust, added:
“I am delighted for our students at Goodwin Academy. They have worked exceptionally hard, and it is great to see them excited about their future. Well done to all!”
