Goodwin Academy students celebrate GCSE results

April 13, 2022 11:11am

Students and staff at Goodwin Academy are celebrating today as they receive their GCSE grades.

This year, despite the challenges caused by the coronavirus, students have excelled, and the Thinking Schools Academy Trust is rejoicing in a year of fantastic results for students.

The academy saw particular success in many subjects including English, Maths, French, Performing Arts and Business. More than 33% of students achieved a Distinction in Performing Arts and Business.

There are also some standout individual performances. These include:

  • India Warren who successfully achieved grade 9 in English Language, English Literature, and Science, Grade 8 in Maths and History and Distinctions in both Performing Arts and Health and Social Care.
  • Samuel Smith who successfully achieved grade 9 in English Language, Geography, and Science with a Distinction* in Computing.
  • Christopher Muir who successfully achieved grade 9 in English Language, Maths, and Science, and a Distinction* in Computing.
  • Paige Hutchison who successfully achieved grade 8 in English Language, English Literature and Geography, and Distinction* in Business and Computing.
  • Trinity Barber who successfully achieved grade 8 in English Language and Geography, and Distinction* in Business and Computing.

Due to the pandemic, the Government made the decision that this year, young people’s grades would be determined by teachers, based on work they had produced throughout their courses. These grades were then moderated and assessed by external exam boards who awarded the final grades.

Simon Smith, Headteacher at Goodwin Academy, said: I am incredibly proud of our students as they receive their GCSE grades today. They have worked so hard over the last two years and taken all the challenges of the pandemic in their stride. To see them receive the grades they deserve and be able to progress onto their next steps is fantastic.

“We are excited to see what the future holds for them and would like to say a huge thank you to all our students, parents, carers, staff and local community for your support and encouragement.”

Stuart Gardner, CEO of Thinking Schools Academy Trust, added: “I am delighted for our students at Goodwin Academy. They have worked exceptionally hard, and it is great to see them excited about their future. Well done to all!”
