From 2003 to 2009, I worked as a bioanalytical chemist for Pfizer. During this period, I studied part-time, graduating from Greenwich University in 2008 with an HNC in Chemistry and a First Class BSc Hons degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
In 2009, I transitioned to secondary education, joining Sandwich Technology School as a science teacher. In 2014, I moved to Goodwin Academy as a Lead Practitioner, focusing on enhancing the quality of teaching and learning. After completing the NPQH qualification, I became Deputy Head for Curriculum and Academic Standards in September 2022, and then served as Interim Headteacher in 2023.
I am now pleased to return to my role as Deputy Head, remaining dedicated to raising academic standards, fostering cultural literacy, and teaching students to recognize and respect diversity, ensuring they are their BEST every day.
After graduating from Canterbury Christchurch University with a (BSc) First class honours degree in Business Information Management, I began a career with Kent County Council working for their digital curriculum team developing the use of digital technologies in schools. During this time I was tasked with managing the eSafety agenda in schools and rolled out an internet safety training programme to every school in Kent, receiving the ‘Children’s champion’ award from CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection centre).
I then moved to the Attendance service supporting children to improve their school attendance and working with vulnerable young people. From there, I joined Goodwin Academy, initially as a student support officer, then progressing to managing the behaviour team within the school. Despite my passion for pastoral support, I wanted to broaden my skills and trained to become a teacher of English. After I qualified, I took on the role of Head of Year 11 and have thoroughly enjoyed supporting our students in the final stages of their Key Stage 4 journey.
I am now working as Assistant Head responsible for Conduct and Relationships and I am committed to support our students to uphold our high standards, strive for their best and become responsible independent members of our community.
After graduating from Liverpool University with a degree in The History of Art, I moved to the European Alps to work in ski resorts for a number of years. After returning to the UK, I worked in Industry for several years before making the choice to move into the education sector.
I began my journey in education as an unqualified teacher at a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), this experience gave me the foundations and drive to pursue a career in education. I gained my qualified teacher status in 2013 and worked as a History teacher in the local area, before taking a Head of Year role at Goodwin Academy in 2018.
I further broadened my skill set when I was appointed as Head of History in 2019. I am incredibly proud to have developed the History department into one of the most popular and successful departments at Goodwin.
I am excited to take on my latest challenge as Assistant Head in charge of thinking, teaching and learning, I believe that I can have real impact in this role and help improve the life chances of all students at Goodwin.
In 2008, I graduated from Lincoln University with a BSc in Sports Development and Coaching. In 2009, I began my teacher training through the GTP programme at Pent Valley Technology School gaining QTS in 2010 and became a full-time ICT teacher.
In April 2016, I joined Goodwin Academy as Second in charge of Science, in September 2019 I made the move across to Vocational Qualifications. From September 2022, I took on the role of Associate Assistant Principal responsible for Attendance, Data and Vocational Education.
This role was exciting for me as I was able to support students and families with all matters of attendance, as well as analysing the academic progress of students, subjects and the whole academy and also line managing subjects that deliver vocational education to students in KS4/5.
In September 2023 I became appointed as Assistant Head responsible for Data Systems and Assessment Development. I am committed to ensure students are studying the correct pathway, analysing academic outcomes and digital learning across the Academy.
In 2010, I graduated from Southampton University with a Masters in Film Composition and began pursuing a career as a professional Choir Leader for the world's largest contemporary choir, Rock Choir. Within this role I found great pleasure working with the general public and leading various choirs across East Kent. Some of my proudest moments during this time were singing live on the BBC Breakfast Show and performing to 20,000 Rock Choir members at the O2 Arena.
In 2013, I began the very exciting journey into education and took on the role as Head of Music Performance at Ashford School. Having worked within the private sector for a year, I was keen to develop my professional experience and sought roles within large coastal schools to support and inspire pupils across the East Kent coast.
In 2018, I joined Folkestone Academy as a Head of Year and quickly progressed to become a Raising Standards Leader across Key Stage 4, supporting over 400 pupils with their academic and behavioural needs.
In September 2023, I joined Goodwin Academy as an Assistant Principal, leading on Personal Development across the school. Supporting pupils with their aspirational goals and providing all pupils with equal opportunities to develop and grow into well rounded and cultured individuals.
